Dentures

Missing teeth affect more than your smile. They change how you chew, how you speak, and over time, even how your face looks as the jawbone gradually loses support. Dentures solve all three problems at once and at Klinik Pergigian Aswad in Kuantan, every set is custom-fitted by Dr. Aisyah to match your bite, gum contour, and daily routine.

Whether you’ve lost a few teeth or an entire arch, gigi palsu remains one of the most accessible and proven ways to restore oral function. Unlike implants, dentures don’t require surgery, which makes them a practical first choice for many patients, especially those managing budget, time, or medical considerations. If you’re weighing a removable option against a fixed solution, our crown and bridge treatment page covers the alternative approach.

What Are Dentures?

Dentures are removable prosthetics made from acrylic resin, nylon, or metal alloy frameworks designed to sit over your gums and replace missing teeth. In Malay, they’re commonly known as gigi palsu and they’ve been a cornerstone of restorative dentistry for decades.

Modern dentures look significantly more natural than older versions. The teeth are colour-matched to your remaining teeth (or to a shade you choose), and the gum-coloured base is shaped to follow your actual gum line. When fitted correctly, most people won’t notice you’re wearing them.

types of dentures at Klinik Pergigian Aswad

We provide a wide selection of custom-made options, each tailored to how you live, not just how you chew. Whether you’re missing a few teeth or need full-mouth restoration, we have a solution for you.

flexible dentures

Flexible Dentures

Patients with sensitive gums or uneven ridges often start here. Made from thin, flexible nylon (Valplast or TCS), these dentures adapt to your gum contours without visible metal clasps and the soft base distributes pressure more evenly than rigid acrylic.

complete denture

Complete Dentures

Full dentures replace every tooth in the upper jaw, lower jaw, or both. They rest on the gum ridge and are held by suction (upper) or adhesive (lower). Most patients regain near-full chewing function within the first month after a short adjustment period.

Custom-Made Dentures

Custom-Made Dentures

Our premium option uses higher-grade acrylic teeth with multi-layered colouring, a more lifelike gum texture, and additional try-in appointments before final fabrication. If appearance is your top priority for client-facing roles or simply the most natural result, this is the option worth discussing.

partial dentures

Partial Dentures

Partial dentures fill gaps where some natural teeth remain, clipping onto existing teeth with metal clasps for stability. They also prevent remaining teeth from shifting into empty spaces, a common issue that leads to bite misalignment over time.

cobalt chrome dentures

Cobalt Chrome Dentures

If bulk in the mouth bothers you, this is usually the fix. Cobalt chrome dentures use a thin metal alloy framework covered by acrylic teeth and gum sections  notably slimmer than full-acrylic dentures. The frame itself can outlast standard acrylic by years, often holding up 10+ years against the typical 5–7.

suction dentures

Suction Dentures

Suction dentures use a vacuum-seal mechanism to stay firmly seated, no adhesive pastes needed. This is particularly valuable for lower dentures, which are notoriously hard to keep stable with conventional methods. The suction fit is achieved through precise border moulding, which Dr. Aisyah performs chairside during your fitting appointment.

When Do You Need Them?

Not every missing tooth requires a denture. But if you’re experiencing any of the following, it’s worth booking a consultation:

  • Multiple missing teeth in a row, making it difficult to chew or speak properly
  • All teeth missing in the upper jaw, lower jaw, or both
  • Teeth that have been extracted due to severe decay, infection, or gum disease
  • Loose or shifting teeth caused by advanced bone loss
  • Facial sagging around the mouth and cheeks from prolonged tooth loss

Many of our denture patients have already gone through tooth extraction before coming in for their fitting and for patients keeping some natural teeth, we can plan tooth restoration for the remaining teeth alongside a partial denture.

Our Treatment Process

Consultation

We start with a clinical exam and X-ray (if needed) to assess gum health and bone structure. Dr. Aisyah who has fitted dentures for patients across Pahang for over a decade will recommend the best denture type for your situation and walk you through a clear cost estimate before any work begins.

Custom Impressions and Bite Registration

We take precise dental impressions to create an exact mould of your gums and palate, plus a bite registration to ensure your upper and lower jaws meet correctly

Fitting and Final Adjustments

For premium or complex cases, a wax try-in lets you see and feel the denture before the final version is processed. Adjustments to tooth position or colour are easier at this stage.

Frequently Asked Questions about Dentures

Are dentures painful to wear?

Well-fitted dentures shouldn’t cause pain. Some tenderness is normal during the first one to two weeks as your gums adjust. If discomfort persists, a minor adjustment is usually all that’s needed  which we include as part of your treatment.

Yes—especially when they’re custom-made. We design dentures to fit snugly, with minimal irritation and no slipping. Suction and cobalt chrome options offer extra stability for daily wear.

In Dr. Aisyah’s clinical experience, most well-maintained dentures last 5 to 10 years, with cobalt chrome frames often running longer. We provide aftercare support and regular check-ups to keep yours in top condition.

Absolutely. While it takes a short adjustment period, our patients regain full chewing function including old favourites like nasi kerabu and keropok lekor especially with well-fitted flexible or full suction dentures.

Full dentures replace all missing teeth in a jaw. Partial dentures fill gaps between existing teeth. We’ll recommend the best type during your consultation.
